NEWSLETTER from the PRESIDENT’S DESK

GREETINGS
Can you believe that we are in the month of February already? We have been very busy this past month and this one is going to be even busier than last month if that is possible.

HUNTERS APPRECIATION

I met with Jason Surles and Phillip Wilmeth January 20th to start planning for the 2016 Hunters Appreciation. We hope to have everything in place by April so we can start advertising and letting the public know about the changes that are going to take place this year. Dilley Feed and Grain is coming on board with their deer contest and will be presenting their 2015 winners with their awards which will be a big plus for our event because it will bring in more hunters to the function. The date is still undecided until I meet with the board of directors this week but tentatively it is set for Thursday, November 3, 2016. We are very excited about this turn of events.

LASALLE COUNTY HOSPITAL DISTRICT:

The Hospital District held a meeting on February 2, 2016 and was very well attended. Many of the attendees applauded its efforts and others voiced their concerns and gave suggestions. Overall it was a very productive meeting.

COOKIE DELIVERY:

On January 14 we made our first cookie delivery to Las Palmas Nursing Home in appreciation for them being a member of the Chamber. On January 28th, I made the second delivery to Patterson Insurance Agency. We will be doing two cookie deliveries a month to show our appreciation to those who belong to the chamber.

BUSINESS OF THE MONTH:

The business of the month for February is Gardendale Rail. Dal Randle, who is over Gardendale Rail, is an ex-board of director for the Chamber. We want to congratulate them for being chosen for this month’s Business of the Month.

COUNTY OF COTULLA:

As we all saw in the paper, the County has almost completed the road project on Stephenson road. That was something that needed to be done and we hope there are many more projects like that in the works for the rest of the county roads. They are working on the by-pass and we hope to see that work start soon. I feel that our county, like the city, planned ahead and we will do well during this economic interim.

GUEST APPRECIATION:

The Holiday Inn Express will be holding a guest appreciation and reopening on February 24th, 2016 at 5:30 P. M. The public is invited and we encourage everyone to go by the hotel and see the new renovation. Let the management know how much we appreciate them. We appreciate all the businesses that are here because of them they boost our economy.

CITY OF COTULLA:

Larry Dovalina, City Administrator for the City of Cotulla, reported at our meeting last month that this city is fairing very well compared to some of our other cities in the Eagle Ford Shale play because of the oil and gas downturn. When you plan ahead for just this very thing, knowing that the boom would not last forever and you have the administration in place that knows how to plan for just such as this, you will do well. I want to commend Larry and the City Council for a job well done. I know there are still a lot of work to be done but with patience and diligence it will get done.

COTULLA MAIN STREET:

Patsy Leigh and the Cotulla Main Street have been recognized as a national Main Street City by the Texas Historical Commission. This is the seventh year in a row that this Main Street program has won this award. The Cotulla Chamber board of directors, board members, Melinda and myself are very proud of Patsy and all her hard work. Congratulations to Patsy and her board for a job well done!

COTULLA SHERIFF’S OFFICE:

Melinda Rheinfelt, chamber manager, has sent out an email to all membership encouraging you to participate in the Easter Egg drive that they are doing not only for Cotulla but the Encinal children as well. They are asking for donations so they can buy baskets, candy, etc. so all children can have a nice Easter and not feel left out. So look in your hearts and see if you can donate something to help toward this event. Call The Chamber at 1-800 256-2326 for information or donations.

ALL OTHER COUNTY SUPPORTED BUSINESSES:

Ambulance service, EMT’s, Fire Department and Airport. If you see any of the personnel that man the services please let them know how much you appreciate them and that you are glad they are in our community. Let them know that we support them and their efforts.

BOARD OF DIRECTOR, BOARD MEMBER AND REGULAR MEMBERSHIP MEETING:

The Board of Directors and Board Members will meet at 5:00 P. M. and the Regular Membership Meeting will meet at 6:00 P.M. today Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at the A. B. Alexander Convention center in the meeting room upstairs. The public is invited to attend the regular membership meeting at 6:00. Please make plans to attend. You receive a wealth of information from our officials that hold higher positions in our community and you will find out what is going on.

On behalf of the board of directors, board members, Melinda and I, we want to wish you a HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY. We hope that you will treat your special someone to a nice dinner and show her or him how much you appreciate them.
